Well Creek Candles

Welcome the the Well Creek Candle web site where we sell our hand made candles made from natural waxes.

Natural waxes are those found in nature such as Beeswax or made from natural sources such as Soy Wax

We no longer  have any products on this site that are made from paraffin wax which is a by-product of  the petroleum industry.

What are the advantages of natural waxes?

One modern use of candles is to scent a room with various fragrances.  The type of candle you burn affects the combustibles you fill your room with.  Paraffin wax is derived from the industrial processing of crude oil.  Whilst they have been used successfully as candles and scented products for some years, we would prefer not to burn them when there are more natural products available.

Soy Wax

Made from hydrogenated Soy Bean oil, this is a fairly recent introduction.  It was first produced in the 1990’s as a cheaper alternative to Beeswax.  Soy candles can last longer than paraffin wax and produce a lot less soot.

Beeswax

Beeswax is produced by honey bees.  They use beeswax to build the hive structure, the honey comb where they store the honey and produce new bees.  Beeswax is produced by the worker bees so is entirely natural.  It is a golden yellow colour with a smell somewhere between honey and toffee.Made into candles it is solid, shiny and simple.  One of  our favourite natural candle waxes.

Beeswax is more expensive than most other waxes.  Go to our Beeswax pages

Aromatherapy Candles

Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils to improve the mental and physical well being of an individual.  They can be applied by massage using carrier oils, by water or inhaled.  Aromatherapy candles allow the release of these oils into the room as part of this process.

Types of Candle

There are several different types of candle.  Teal Lights, Votives, Jar Candles, Dinner Candles and pillar candles to name a few.  The main difference is the volume of wax involved which of course affects the length of time it burns.  Tea Lights are the smallest and usually placed in holders or under burners.  Votives are used to deliver a scent and tend to completely melt Jar candles and container candles cover a wide range.  Dinner candles are tall and thin.  Pillar candles are round or square and tend to be the largest.
